The teacher highlights each word on screen, so the student always knows where to read.

How to learn Quran online: what actually works, and what to check first

Most families who learn Quran online do it because the nearest madrasah is a drive away, the timings clash with school, or there is no female teacher available locally. The lesson itself is not a compromise. A teacher listening to one student read over a video call hears the same mistakes they would hear sitting beside them, and corrects them in the same breath.

What does change is how easy it is to pick badly. Below is what separates online Quran classes that work from the ones people quietly stop attending after six weeks.

One student, one teacher — not a class of thirty

Reciting is corrected letter by letter. If a child says ض where the word needs د, somebody has to hear it that second and say so. In a one-to-one lesson that happens every time. In a group of thirty it happens when the child’s turn comes round, which might be Thursday. Every lesson here is private, and the teacher’s whole attention is on the one student reading.

Recorded video courses have their place for learning the Tajweed rules as theory. They cannot tell you that your qalqalah is too soft, because they cannot hear you.

Learn Quran online with Tajweed: ask what the teacher trained in

A useful question to any academy: did this teacher study Tajweed formally, and can they explain a rule in English to a nine-year-old born in Birmingham? Those are two different skills and plenty of excellent reciters have only the first. You can request a female Quran teacher for sisters and for daughters, on every course, and you can change teacher without giving a reason.

Learn to read Quran online in a written order, not at random

A real Quran course online runs in a known order: Noorani Qaida for the letters and their sounds, then reading with Tajweed, then memorisation for students who want it. People searching for a learn Quran online academy are usually looking for exactly this: an order, written down, that somebody is accountable for. A student should always be able to say which lesson they are on and what the next one is. Ours are written into the portal after every class, so a parent who was not in the room can still see what was covered and what to practise before Thursday.

Learn Quran online for adults and beginners, starting from zero

Roughly half the adults who start with us cannot read Arabic at all on day one. Reverts, parents who want to keep ahead of their children, people who learned as a child and lost it. There is no beginners’ class to be embarrassed in, because there is no class — just you and a teacher who has taught the alphabet to adults many times before. Learning Quran online for beginners is slower at the start and then quicker than people expect, because adults understand the rules once rather than absorbing them by repetition.

Learn Quran online for kids: short lessons, often

Children can start Quran lessons from about four or five. Thirty minutes is the right length — past that, a young child is present but no longer learning. Three to five short classes a week will take a child further than one long weekend session, and the difference is not small. Sit nearby for the first two or three lessons so your child sees that you and the teacher are on the same side.

What online Quran classes cost, and what they should not

Our plans run from £20 a month for two classes a week to £42 a month for five, with 15% off for each additional child in the same family. The thing to check anywhere you enrol: is the price per month or per class, does it change after the first month, and can you stop without a notice period. Ours is per month, it does not change, and you can cancel before the next billing date.

Learn Quran online from home, in your own time zone

Lessons are scheduled in your local time, not ours. A family in Toronto and a family in Sydney both get an evening slot that suits them. Nothing is installed: the classroom opens in your browser from the student portal. You need a laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and microphone, and an internet connection steady enough for a video call.

Try the teacher first: the free level assessment

Every student gets a free level assessment first. A teacher listens to the student read, says plainly where they are, and recommends where to start. No card details are taken for it. If the teacher is not right for your child, say so and we will arrange a different one; if the academy is not right for you, you owe nothing and we will not chase you.

Questions families ask before starting

How do online Quran classes actually work?

A teacher and one student meet at a set time in our own classroom, which opens in your browser from the student portal. The teacher shares the page, the student recites aloud, and mistakes are corrected as they happen. Lessons are 30 minutes for children and up to an hour for adults. Nothing is recorded or installed, and there is no meeting ID to type in.

What age can a child start to learn Quran online for kids?

Most children are ready from age four or five. Young children start with Noorani Qaida — the Arabic letters and their sounds — in short 30-minute lessons. Sit nearby for the first few classes so your child settles with the teacher. Children who can already read move straight to Quran reading with Tajweed.

Can I learn Quran online for adults and complete beginners?

Yes, and about half of our adult students begin without reading any Arabic. Adults usually take two or three longer lessons a week and work through the alphabet, then joined letters, then short surahs. Because the lesson is private there is no class to feel behind in. Reverts and parents learning alongside their children are common here.

Can I learn Quran online with Tajweed properly, or only in person?

Tajweed is taught by ear, so it transfers to a video call almost completely. The teacher hears every letter, corrects the makharij — where in the mouth the sound is made — and works through the rules in order: noon and meem sakin, madd, qalqalah, and the rest. What a screen cannot do is let the teacher watch your mouth closely, so our teachers ask students to hold the camera a little closer for the sounds that need it.

Can I learn Quran online for free?

One free trial lesson, and no card details are taken for it. It is a real one-to-one class, and the teacher assesses the student’s level during it and recommends a course — the free trial lesson and the free level assessment are the same single lesson, not two separate offers. Everything after it is paid: plans start at £20 a month for two classes a week. We would rather say that plainly than advertise free classes and ask for money later. If cost is the obstacle, tell us; we would rather arrange something than lose a student.

What is the best way to learn Quran online?

Short lessons, often, with the same teacher. Three or four 30-minute classes a week will take a student further than one long session, because recitation is built by repetition with correction. Keep the same teacher long enough for them to know the student's habits. And practise between lessons — ten minutes daily is worth more than an hour the night before.

How long does it take to learn to read Quran online?

With three to five classes a week, most beginners finish Noorani Qaida in three to six months and then start reading the Quran with Tajweed. Reading fluently with the rules applied takes most students one to two years from a standing start. Children who already read some Arabic go faster. Anyone promising fluency in weeks is selling something.

Can I request a female Quran teacher?

Yes, for any student and any course, including Tajweed and memorisation. Many families ask for a female teacher for their daughters or for sisters learning themselves, and it is a normal request, not an awkward one. You can also change teacher at any time without explaining why.

Do I need Skype or Zoom for the lessons?

No. Lessons happen in our own classroom, which opens in a browser tab from the student portal. There is nothing to download, no account to make with another company, and no link to lose. It works on a laptop, tablet or phone.

What equipment do I need to learn Quran online from home?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a working camera and microphone, and an internet connection steady enough for a video call. Headphones help a child concentrate and make the teacher easier to hear. A physical Quran or Qaida is useful but not required — the teacher can share the page on screen.

How much do online Quran classes cost?

Plans are monthly: £20 for two classes a week, £28 for three, £35 for four and £42 for five. Each additional child from the same family gets 15% off. Prices are shown in your own currency at checkout and do not change after the first month.

Can my children and I learn at different levels?

Yes. Every student has their own lesson, their own teacher if you want, and their own record in the portal. A family might have a six-year-old on Qaida, a teenager memorising, and a parent learning to read, all on separate plans with the sibling discount applied.

What if the class time no longer suits us?

Tell us on WhatsApp before the lesson and we will move it. Timetables change with school terms, Ramadan and shift work, and rescheduling is normal rather than a favour. Lessons are booked in your local time zone, so a move of clocks on our side never shifts your slot.

Can I learn Quran tafseer online as well as recitation?

Yes. Once a student reads comfortably, many move on to meaning — word-by-word translation and then tafseer of selected surahs, taught in English. It runs as its own course rather than being squeezed into a recitation lesson, because the two need different kinds of attention.

Can I cancel, and what happens to the money I have paid?

You can cancel at any time before your next billing date and you are not charged again. There is no notice period and no cancellation fee. Classes you have already paid for stay yours until the end of that month.

How do I know my child is safe in an online lesson?

Lessons happen on our own platform, not on a teacher's personal account, so there is no private channel between a teacher and a child. The lesson chat is kept and is readable by the academy, teachers do not exchange personal contact details with families, and a parent is welcome in the room at any time. Our safeguarding page sets out the rules in full.
